This past weekend, I again taught my class “Roses: Then and Now” at Atlantia University. I have taught it twice before, in June and last October, with good success. This time, the site for University was local… really local… right here on campus! So, rather than cut roses from my garden to take to a class and show, I figured that I would run the class as a “field trip” and we would walk over from the University Student Center to the Raleigh Rose Garden which is just north of campus. This is a city park and has a quite nice array of roses. It is an ARS display garden so they have mostly award winning rose varieties.
In the past, my class lasted a single hour period and I had been scheduled in the morning. This time, I requested afternoon and two hours of time. I really did not expect to fill up the entire two hours but I figured with a 15 minute walk on each end and an initial delay to gather students, I would be hard pressed to get the whole thing done in a single hour.
